This weekend will also kick off our new group art show, featuring work of four California textile artists; Julia Canright, recycledlovers, Lise Silva, and Lisa Spayde. These woman all create a variety of detailed wall hangings that focus on a variety of different techniques including; weaving, printing, wrapping, knot work, and more! This new show will be up at Resurrect from September 14th - November 14th. Stop by and check it out during our anniversary bash!
Julia Canright is a bag maker, block printer and SF native. She got her BA in History in Portland, OR and came back to San Francisco to explore a passion for art and design. She creates bold and graphic block printed and painted canvas bags, handmade in the Bay Area. She's committed to quality and craftsmanship with unique design inspired by traditional Indian, Japanese, and West African block printed textile design as well as modern and expressionist art. Her designs express a return to old-world craftsmanship with a fresh, modern aesthetic.
Jenny Martin is the main brain behind @recycledlovers. Just like herself, her brand has evolved. Small beginnings as a vintage online shop, turned into selling handmade items and offering creative design. Her wall hangings are something that were years in the making when she finally decided to take it on full time and quit her "day" job. She is constantly daydreaming about what to make next and every chance she gets, she takes time to create. Jenny feels that her work doubles as a very relaxing experience to sit and manipulate rope in beautiful ways.
Lise Silva is an artist living in Oakland, CA and working from her studio in Berkeley. Strongly influenced by meditation, mysticism, classic film, psychedelic illustration, surrealism, and art deco design, she explores the power of symbols through her work with Sacred Knots creating fiber jewelry and wall-hangings with handmade cord entwined in knot designs that serve as a metaphor for life experiences, dreams, and deep desires. In addition to knotting, Lise's fiber work encompasses sewing, cord wrapping, and tassel-making. Her handmade cord is a part of the unique aesthetic of her work. In a simple, meditative technique known as 'wrapping' a long, single thread wraps continuously down the entire length of the rope, the newly created cord is then knotted and emblazoned with tassels, beads or brass. Her work has been described as dreamy, feminine, mystical, and mysterious.
Lisa Spayde is a Northern California based fiber artist. Having grown up along the sandy shores of San Diego, she is inspired by her native landscapes of rich golden hills and the ever changing California coast. Lisa uses traditional tapestry techniques, along with foraged and re-purposed materials, to create textured woven wall hangings.
Spending much of her life searching for a meaningful creative outlet, Lisa tried her hand at everything from painting to jewelry making and knitting, finally stumbling upon her niche when she took her first weaving class two years ago. The textures she was able to create using a myriad of fibers and color palettes fulfilled her inner need to make. Taking classes from a variety of weavers inspired and influenced Lisa greatly to find her own continuously evolving craft.
The Lioness Oracle AKA Alejandra León Wolfe Rocha will be reading tarot at the shop on Saturday 9/24 from 2pm - 6pm. Alejandra is a professional tarot reader living and working in Oakland, CA. Stephanie grew up in a wooded rural area of Southern Oregon, so one can imagine that nature was a big part of her life from a young age. She didn't really realize how important her love of the natural world was until she moved to Oakland several years ago. The constant presence of mechanized society, and the sheer bulk of people in the Bay Area has made her think a lot more about the importance and strength of natural forces, and how she can connect to that power through her art.
Her art begins with collage elements that are cut and pasted from popular women's fashion and beauty magazines. As is true for many women, Stephanie realized that these types of magazines had a big influence on her ideas about femininity and sexuality as a teen. As adults we can recognize that those glossy advertisements are fake, but as a teen that wasn't so clear. By cutting up those images and using them in her drawings, Stephanie is able to transform them into new realities that include her respect and love for nature. Through these drawings, she's able to tap the universe within herself, and encourage others to look at their connection to the natural world too.

On Thursday March 17th 2016, we will be having an art reception for Oakland artist Laura Ann Kay from 6-9pm. Her whimsical ceramic art pieces are perfect for Spring with their beautful glazes and interesting themes. Stop by for refreshments and meet Laura in person!
Laura Ann Kay's affinity for ceramics began in 2010. Initially, she created small pieces, the kind of enchanted objects she might have collected as a child and stashed in her jean pockets.
She's since developed a handful of themes such as Bumps - textured pieces created by using bits of broken pen parts, straws, and paint brush handles; Lions, Fish, and Birds - which are either painted or carved; and the featured work of this show: Wall hangings/faces. Here, again, pen parts, eucalyptus pods, and other various found objects contribute to her designs and textures. These playful, often colorful, pieces capture Laura's affection for nature; trees, birds, sky, sun, and the stars.
Join us Thursday, February 18th for the Piedmont Ave Stroll from 6-9pm. We will be having an art reception for Oakland artist Naomi Duben. Explore the life and art of Naomi through her variety of styles in oil painting and mixed media drawings.

If you are unable to make it to the art reception, Naomi's work will be up from February 17th - March 14th 2016.

Laura is a Mom, pleasure activist and artist who has spent her professional life involved in creating a more just world.
Please join us on Thursday January 21st from 6-9pm at Resurrect 4135 Piedmont Avenue. If you are unable to make it to the opening, have no fear! Laura's work will be up until February 14th.
