Monthly Maker Spotlight: Sherry Koyama of Harumi K

Sherry Koyama is the designer of the Oakland-based womenswear line Harumi K. All Harumi K designs are very versatile and transition easily from work to play.

The Harumi K line is designed for the modern woman that wants to look great, be comfortable, and has a million things to do in a day.  Sherry's goal is to make women feel confident and comfortable when wearing her flattering, sleek designs. Each of her pieces melds seamlessly into an existing wardrobe. Sherry personally test drives each style herself before producing it. Harumi K is designed in Sherry's home studio near Resurrect and manufactured in the San Francisco Bay Area to help support the local economy as much as possible.

Sherry is a graduate of the pattern-making program at Apparel Arts and has degrees in Art and Psychology from UC Davis. She is also the Co-Founder of the Oakland Fashion Network, a networking group for fashion designers and industry professionals. Check out the Oakland Fashion Network website to learn more! The Oakland Fashion Network will be having a fashion show and holiday shopping event at Apparel Arts, in downtown Oakland this Friday Dec. 4th from 6-9pm. The event will coincide with Oakland’s First Fridays Art Murmur and you can buy tickets here!

We are so thrilled to have Harumi K designs in the shop and have Sherry as our neighbor! Stop in soon to see Sherry's line in person or check out her website to read more.

Meet the Resurrect Team!

I am so grateful to have an amazing staff to help run Resurrect! I want to take a moment and introduce them as they are both very dynamic and interesting individuals.

Katrina Ginsberg has worked at Resurrect for over a year and has extensive knowledge and a huge love for vintage clothing. She has worked at several vintage shops over the years and has a great eye for merchandising and helping you pick out your next gift or "night out" ensemble. Katrina's current style inspiration consist of; large romantic hoods, 1920's fashion, long black dresses, intricate lace, velvet, and whimsical designs. Katrina is currently back in school majoring in Environmental Science and spends her days studying Chemistry and Calculus. Her other great life passions are writing, dancing, herbalism, ecosystem restoration, sustainability, and being in nature.

Chelsea recently joined the Resurrect team and we love having her positive energy on board! Chelsea has a huge love for art and fashion design and greatly appreciates local artists in Oakland and on the West Coast.  Her style philosophy is; "Wear what you feel, be comfortable, and flexible." She believes that personal fashion is inclusive communication that empowers and adorns your spirit. Chelsea is also a yoga and dance fitness instructor at Flying Studios and Monkey Yoga Shala. You can find her current teaching schedule at gggyoga.com. In her free time, she loves to garden, cook with loved ones /friends, sing, and play music.

Come say hello the next time you are in the neighborhood!

Monthly Maker Spotlight: Desiree Salas Designs

This month we are featuring one of our favorite Oakland clothing designers, Desiree Salas. Desiree is an incredible designer that has been designing clothing for 10 years.  Her current line consists of vintage-inspired, feminine women’s clothing in bright floral or animal inspired prints that are designed for every season. All of her clothing is designed and sewn right here in Oakland, CA! Two of her signature pieces and best sellers are a dark denim 70's inspired wrap skirt and a 1940's inspired A-line wrap dress (see photos below).  Women of all sizes comment on how flattering the fit of her clothing is and how well the garments are sewn.

While not working on her clothing line, Desiree helps her husband run Cole Coffee, another locally owned Oakland business, which is a must to check out. Stop by Resurrect to see and try on her designs in person or you can check out her website to find her vending at local art fairs and events throughout the Bay Area.

Desiree in her element!

Monthly Maker Spotlight: Mastrich Metals

We are thrilled to begin our blog by featuring one of our favorite makers that has been at the shop since the day we opened: Mastrich Metals!  Mastrich Metals is created by Devon Steck in her home studio in Maui, HI where she has lived since 2006. Devon personally designs and fabricates each piece of her jewelry line by hand. Her modern designs incorporate enameled copper, sterling silver fabrication, unique stone cabachons and the use of mixed metals. Her one of a kind jewelry has a modern edginess that really stands out, but is also easy to mix into your mix of daily accessories.

Devon has been and continues to be a huge part of Resurrect's success. She and her husband even came out to help with some construction  and store preparation during the week of Resurrect's grand opening! Stay tuned for future trunk shows with Mastrich Metals in 2016!  To see Devon's newest creations and artistic process follow @mastrichmetalsjewelry on Instagram.
